7 Surrey Street - Norwich

7 Surrey Street
Norwich
NR1 3NX

Breakfast served until 3pm everyday except Sunday

Nearest car park - St Stephens multi-storey

7 Surrey Street is close to the bus station and a far better option than the bus station cafe.

Opening times are a mystery at some places but not here.

A nice clear menu with great drink offers and breakfasts served till 3pm.

Inside is fairly big and well lit with the counter at the rear.

The sandwiches looked really nice with generous fillings.

The cakes were tempting me but I resisted the urge and ordered breakfast.

You will see sauces and cutlery when you order but no need to collect it as it is bought to your table later.

This was my first cup but as refills were available I later went for a second cup. A good deal and the coffee was great!

Somewhere to hang your coat, papers available to read and news on the TV, plenty to keep you occupied whilst you wait for your food to arrive.

Quality sauces in bottles is what I like to see.

You get a good sized breakfast for your money, this is "The 7 special breakfast" which included unlimited tea or coffee for £7.50.

The eggs were cooked to perfection.

The sausages were not great quality and the hash browns were not crispy, they both tasted ok though.

Great bacon and plenty of beans.

This is the vegetarian breakfast served with Linda McCartney sausages for £5.00

I don't often walk along Surrey Street but a few weeks ago I did and I spotted 7 Surrey Street. I was delighted to discover they were serving breakfasts so couldn't resist popping in to try it...

Upon entering - The dining area is fairly big with plenty of tables, each has a menu and some salt & pepper. Towards the rear is the counter where you place your order and pay, you will see cutlery and sauces when ordering but these are bought to your table later. There are papers to read and a TV on the wall in the corner, it seemed like a popular place with most tables occupied. It was warm inside and well lit with a good atmosphere and a clean modern look. 7/10

Service - The service here was incredibly good and you felt really well looked after by the friendly staff. The breakfast I ordered included drink refills but my wifes breakfast didn't, despite this the lady serving us kindly didn't charge my wife for her drink pointing out it could be counted as one of my drinks. This was very kind of her and the great service didn't stop there, everything was bought over to us in good time and they checked to see we had everything we wanted. Despite them being busy the table was cleared and more drink refills were offered. 9/10

Contents - 2 sausages, 2 bacon, 2 fried eggs, 2 hash browns, half a grilled tomato, mushrooms, beans, 2 slices of buttered toast and unlimited tea or coffee. 8/10

Presentation - There was a lot on the plate and a side dish was offered for me to put my toast on to. It looked really nice and the eggs appeared perfectly cooked. 7/10

The food - The sausages were fairly standard with a quite good texture. The bacon tasted great and the fried eggs were perfect with a nice intact runny yolk and no traces of uncooked egg white to be found anywhere. The tomato was cooked nicely, the mushrooms were delicious and there was plenty of beans on the plate. The hash brown tasted ok but was not crispy on the outside. Standard white sliced bread was used for the toast. 7/10

Value for money - You get a lot for your money here and the hot drink refills are a great idea offering even better value for money. 7/10

Veggie option - Veggie sausages are available on breakfasts.

Overall - I liked 7 Surrey Street, it had a great atmosphere inside and you are well taken care of by the friendly and efficient staff. The breakfast was traditional and enjoyable to eat, the fried eggs were for me the best part, cooked exactly how I like them. 7.5

  3. I think that this offering is very strong indeed.

At first I baulked at the £7.50 price tag but viewing subsequent photographs changed that opinion in quick time.

Double points for the cash and carry sauces which I note havent been refilled overnight like a Weatherstones.

    Shame about Sunday opening however.
